The Air Jordan 3s have been labeled as one of the most significant sneakers of all time. It marks an evolution from its predecessors because it takes a refreshing take on the Jordan series.
Developed by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Jordan 3 has changed the sneaker landscape. Designed after using Michael Jordan’s recommendations for a mid-cut sneaker that’s comfortable and has an enhanced performance ability, the sneaker is well-known for its visible air bubble, elephant print, soft-grain leather, iconic colorways, and of course, Jordan’s logo on the tongue.
All of this adds to the Air Jordan 3s popularity, and it’s no wonder that they continue to be released and re-retroed every couple of years. Let’s have a look at some of the most coveted pairs—the crème de la crème—from the Air Jordan 3 releases.
This is one of the best colorways that was originally released in 1988. The shoes made the headlines when Jordan broke them out in front of the crowd at an All-Star game. Since their debut, they have been retroed five times.
The Black/Cement’s white counterpart, the Air Jordan 3 White/Cement is a pair that Jordan actually wore on the court in 1987 before the official release in 1988. The pair has also been retroed five times in the three-plus decades since it made its debut.
This one has to be the most underrated colorways out of all the Air Jordan 3s. The pair features the famed elephant print leather panels with red accents in the mix. Debuted by MJ in the 1988 NBA playoffs, the Air Jordan 3 Fire Red is now gaining the traction it deserves.
This is the fourth one of the OG Air Jordan colorway. Although these were never actually worn by MJ, they still took the market by a storm upon their release. The bold blue accent and the additional elephant printed grey panel definitely make this pair a sight to behold.
This one’s our personal favorite. The Fragment Design x Air Jordan 3 Retro SP White may not have been a part of the OG Air Jordan 3s, but it’s definitely on their level, if not higher. The product of a collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara's design label, this pair is definitely the crème de la crème. The design features a primarily white upper, tumbled leather, overlaid black leather on the mudguard and a double lightning bolt on the heels.
